Arnhemland-Eco-Cultural-Tours13.jpg

This is a one day tour to remember in the company of the world’s oldest living culture. The Traditional Owners of the land introduce you to the art of gathering bush tucker and bush medicine, sharing their unique knowledge of the land and its wildlife.

The exquisite art of the region begins with the raw materials so you and your guides will explore country gathering bark for painting, pandanus for weaving and other fibres for carving. This will make available a deeper appreciation of the many art works at the internationally renowned Maningrida Arts and Culture gallery.

Maningrida Arts & Culture (MAC) is proudly owned by Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation, and was formally established in 1973 making it one of the oldest Aboriginal Arts centres in Australia. Based in Maningrida community, MAC is currently servicing more than 250 artists from Maningrida and its surrounding 34 homelands, covering an area of more than 10,000 square kilometres.

Rounding off your day is a visit to the Djomi Museum and the Babbarra Women’s Centre both in Maningrida. Explore with your guide the objects and archival photographs at the museum outlining the establishment of the settlement, the events, characters and culture that shaped this amazing place. The Babbarra Women’s Centre showcases and sells fine handprinted textiles and sewn items made by the women of Maningrida using traditional motifs.
